Menu planning Monday 5th July 2021

As we have booked a camping trip we thought we had better check out the tent and other equipment we have got to see what we need to replace or buy. It has been about 4 years since we last went camping (I am not a fan) so everything has just been in storage in the garage or shed since then. I also needed to convince Craig that the tent we have is good enough and that it doesn’t take ages to put up. He is after an Airbeam tent but I refuse to pay for one as we do not go camping enough to justify paying £1000+.

We got the tent up in ½ hour though it did take 4 of us to do it. It could have been done with 2 in the same amount of time but we decided to get Emma and Sam to help so if they want to borrow it then they know how to put it up. Penny decided to christen the main sleeping area by peeing in it. We didn’t realise until Craig took it down and it went over the fabric. It ended up in the bath being cleaned and then left draped over the drying frame in to dry off. Unfortunately, it started to rain as we were taking the tent down so it couldn’t be packed away and the inners and ground sheets ended up in the garage and the outer ended up just shoved in the shed. We didn’t really get a chance to dry it outside so on Sunday we put it in the garage, spread out as much as possible and let the warm air from the tumble dryer dry it out before packing it away.

Around the house

Because of having all the camping equipment out most of the weekend the floors are a disgrace and need a good clean. There are also a few marks on the walls that need cleaning where Penny has shook herself when coming in wet after a walk.

On the menu

Due to the football the family Chinese takeaway has been postponed until this Saturday.

Monday – YOYO (You're on your own)

Tuesday- Liver and Onions

Wednesday- Peri Peri chicken with spicy rice and corn on the cob

Thursday – Lasagne and salad

Friday – Soup and Crusty bread ( Craig’s choice)

Saturday – Chinese Takeaway

Sunday – Nothing planned as not sure what we will be doing. It will either be eating out of freezer diving.

Looking forward to

Having the family around and casting on a new knitting project. I am also going to do a good catch up with a friend on the phone. She lives near Oxford so I also want to see if she is around when we go camping so we can visit.

On the TV

Craig is obsessed with watching Youtube videos on Van Life and travelling around Europe or looking at villas in Spain. I will watch a few and I do have a couple of favourites but I prefer watching craft/knitting podcasts. It is so easy to fall down the Youtube rabbit hole and then nothing gets done. Apart from that we are watching Loki on Disney+ and I am still watching The Bold Type on Netflix. We only have the one TV as a family, Emma has one in her room and Matthew like me is not bothered, I have other things that need to be done or that I want to do instead. I do have a tablet so I can watch things if I choose.

In my crafting pile

I am still working on the Courthouse Steps blanket but I am getting a bit bored with it so I have two projects that I want to start. I am going to cast on a shawl pattern and then wait until we go camping to cast on the knitted tee. I still have not cut out the fabric for the circle skirt and I have done nothing with the quilt or my Disney sampler. I miss not having all day to craft as I did when I was furloughed last year.

Linking up with Sandra and Katy

Hope you all have a great week.

  2. I'm not a fan of camping either, but it is family fun so- we do what we do right? LOL. My husband loves watching Tiny House videos on youtube. I just don't see how that would work for a family of six, but they make it look so easy on youtube right? lol. I hope you have a wonderful week and a great camping trip!

    1. I suppose camping is a form of tiny house living but less comfortable. It does make you wonder how long these people in tiny houses will live in them once they have kids. I know I couldn't.

    1. Prices for airbeam tents have always been high but this year they seem to be a lot higher. The only advantage of them I can see is that it only takes one person to put it up.

  4. Good luck with the camping trip.
Fab meal plan. I'd pass on the liver and onions though. That is one meal I just can't stomach. My fella and girls love it though.
    Enjoy your takeaway! x

    1. I have always loved liver and onions. My kids won't eat it though. Maybe it is because I only started cooking it again recently. I didn't really cook it when the kids were little, maybe if I had done they might eat it. They feel the same about black pudding and haggis.
